Looking for a doctor to help with your vascular disease foot condition in or around San Francisco, the Bay Area, or Sacramento? San Francisco Foot and Ankle Center can diagnose and treat your vascular disease condition.
Vascular disease can occur due to a number of factors. Blood flow is impaired if there is damage to the arteries, which carry oxygenated blood away from the heart to the rest of the body. There may be large vessel disease, commonly due to atherosclerosis (plaque) or from microvascular disease (small vessel disease). Smoking is a large risk factor that significantly contributes to vascular disease. Often if an arterial disease progresses and worsens, it can cause cramping in the calf muscles while walking. If the condition becomes very severe, it may cause pain and cramping even while resting. If your foot and ankle specialist may order certain tests if vascular disease is suspected and a vascular consult may be recommended.
