Shin Splints
Looking for a doctor to help with your shin splints foot condition in or around San Francisco, the Bay Area, or Sacramento? Novato Foot and Ankle Center can diagnose and treat your shin splints condition.
Shin splints, also known as medial tibial stress syndrome, is pain that occurs along the inner edge of the shin bone (tibia). This often occurs in athletes of any age, especially with high repetition activities such as running or jumping. The symptoms typically occur at the beginning of the season when the bone is under increased stress that it was not exposed to during the off-season.
Imaging may be required to differentiate shin splints from other causes of lower leg pain, however may be diagnosed with only clinical evaluation. Conservative treatment options include rest, icing, strengthening, orthotics, or injections. The correct treatment will be determined by your foot and ankle specialist.
